The first class assignment was to create and construct a press-fit object on the lasercutter. At first I chose I more complex design, but then scaled down to a helmet --- an "unsafe" bicycle helmet in fact.
Before beginning the process, the pieces had to be designed on 2D software. I designed the helmet components on Open Office. The design was then uploaded into the cad.py program. Here the appropriate adjustments and changes were administered before proceeding to the cutting.
The lasercutter is generally used to cut cardboard and acrylic sheets. I chose to make the helmet pieces out of cardboard. In order for the pieces to fit together tightly and securely, I added slits to the design.... and Voila!
