animate/ simulate/ optimize your final project

My final project will have a mechanism (linkages) so I animated a mechanism in Maya. I found a great online tutorial for making gears quickly. Since it was my first encounter with Maya, I decided to do a fly-through animation rather than turning the gears.

This is the final result of the gears:

Autodesk's "Getting Started With Maya" tutorial (see especially pages 497- 495) was extremely helpful in exlaining how to do a flythrough animation (setting up a camera, looking through the camera, setting keyframes, etc.)

I am happy to show the result of my short animation, but need to learn how to export to a common file format (e.g., avi) before posting it online. The original Maya file is linked here in the meantime.
