week 4: final project proposal 2
I decided to change the idea for my final project and came up with these new ideas: Possible Projects 1 what will it do? It is a system that can detect when it is raining and automatically closes the window. how will you make it? Build a wooden frame with vertical dented rails on each side and attach it to the window. Make a water sensor (that goes on the outside)and connect it to a board that controls the movement of the servo motor to open windows when the circuit gets closed by the water. what are the materials, components, and systems? - wood for the frame (shopbot) - 1 mm steel for serrated rails and gearwheels (water jet cutter) - RC servo motors - water sensor: PCB board, cables http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0cEQZ13rLM - board for controlling input and output (microcontroller, resistors, capacitors, crystals, etc) what questions will need to be resolved? - How do you generate the movement? - How much energy is needed to move the windows? - How do you stop the movement even if the circuit is closed by water? - Can you open the windows when it's not raining with the same system in reverse? what is the schedule? 1. Build wood framework (shopbot) 2. Cut the dented rails and gearwheels in he waterjet 3. Assemble system with motors 4. Run test for motor's force 5. Mill board for water sensor and test it with a simple led circuit 6. Build board 7. Program connection of water sensor to motor 8. Test movement and force 9. Program stop system 10. Test what is the budget? - steel sheet 48" x 48" x 0,039" $43 - 2" x 6" x 12' dimensional lumber $8 - motors $26 - boards and pieces $30* - extras $30* total $138 INPUT: 2 what will it do? It is a system that can detect when the space is receiving direct sunlight and automatically adjust the blind for letting less light come inside or vice versa. how will you make it? Build a sensing device, that attaches to the window glass and connects to the adjusting pole of the blind so it can spin it to a more opened or closed position. what are the materials, components, and systems? - wood for the frame - 1 mm steel for serrated rails and gearwheels (water jet cutter) - RC servo motor - photo resistors - suction pads - board for controlling input and output (microcontroller, resistors, capacitors, crystals, etc) what questions will need to be resolved? - How do you generate the movement? - How do you stop the movement even? - Is the photo resistors light sensitivity right for the task? what is the schedule? 1. Build board and test sensitivity of photoresistor 2. Program connection of photoresistor to motor 3. Test movement and force 4. Cut parts in waterjet cuter: gearwheels 5. Build and connect parts 6. Create an acrylic box for the system in the laser cutter 7. Assemble 8. Test what is the budget? - steel sheet 24" x 24" x 0,039" $22 - suction pads $5 - motor $13 - boards and pieces $30* - extras $30* total $100 INPUT: 3 what will it do? INPUT: 4 what are you going to make? what will it do? You can record voice messages (in your car, house, etc) and then when the device detects you again it will automatically play the recorded message to remind you of your tasks or give you someone else's greetings INPUT: |
