Open ended structure
I was searching for a basic construction unit which can create both closed components and open ended structures. I have used rhino and autocad through the design process. My first approach was also to create freeform structures out of planar units.
Although the overall look was good, the unit did not have that possibilities to create closed structures as well as open ended ones. I decided to make the geometry more simple yet more flexible. I designed this basic unit with three extension joints, making two variations to extend possibie developments.In order to develop planar assemblies, I made linear link components.
These units can be arranged in several ways so that they create either open ended space sturcures or closed structural units like in the example below.
