The Networked Public Sphere (that sings)
Fab class Final Project Proposal
At the Center for Civic Media we talk a lot about the "networked public sphere", a term used by Yochai Benkler to denote the social and discursive practices in combination with networked technologies that are constituting new forms of civic engagement and participation.
As such, I'd like to make a networked public sphere - a literal one - i.e. a giant transprent spherical object that can be rolled around in public space.
(Possibly inflatable?)
And, as public space is constituted by voices, the networked public sphere would sing songs contributed to an public archive. Visitors to the website via computer or mobile phone can record themselves singing and the sphere queues those songs into a looping playlist.
