001: Final Project Conception

I had initially intended to design a bike helmet with fancy gadgets, but I was advised to aim for something simpler (like a component of one of the things I had dreamed up of).

I've decided to take a different route and attempt to create an entire gel electrophoresis box from scratch. Gel electrophoresis systems are critical for molecular biology work (it's how one runs samples of DNA), but they usually cost a very pretty penny.
The walls of the gel box will be laser cut and glued, while the comb will be cast from a mold. The only limiting factor in this project would be getting the platinum wire, which costs an exorbitant sum for even a short length like 2 inches. I plan to get said wire from some old electrophoresis boxes that are no longer in use in my lab.
