Week 4: CNC Machining

First of all, I designed my chair in AutoCAD 360 Web. I experienced difficulties in stalling AutoCAD on my computer. But AutoCAD 360 Web is a web based tool that allows you to design, access and edit your design from any computer with Internet. Since I do not have knowledge of installing different type of joints, I decided to make a press fit chair.

The cutting is conducted on Shopbot in Science Center. Key learning:

(1) Software got confused when I tried to change default unit from inch to mm. To avoid such situation, I had to change my design file to inch based by converting the measurements.
(2) Leave enough space to the edges so that the endmill doesn't run into the screws.
(3) Remove the pieces from the board once it's already cut out.
(4) Use tabs to fix the pieces so that it doesn't move and influence the cutting result.
(5) In route design, cut the windows inside the design first and cut the outlines afterwards.

Assignment completed after assembly and a bit sanding.

The product is now in my living room, with a little "kid" sitting in it.
