Press Fit Construction Kit

This week's assignment is to design and construct a press fit construction kit using laser cutter at the Harvard Physics lab. I initially started out with the intent to construct a chair. But due to lack of machine time, I had to stick to designing and creating a simple coffee table/bedside stand.

I started out with designing three simple parts in AutoCad. My objective was to designing a stand that is a contemporary version of ethnic Indian furniture.

Using the laser cutter for the first time was quite fun.

Thanks to pre-testing by my colleagues at the Harvard section, I knew the slits had to be 0.154 inches. I had initially designed it with 0.3 inches, I just needed to make the modification and replicate the parts. I dint have to struggle too much with the design.
