How Tiandra Makes (Almost) Anything

Press Fit Construction Kit

I decided to make my press fit kit out of identical pieces. The idea is that it could be used as a puzzle or children's toy, where individual pieces are used to make block-esque units which in turn can interlock to make a larger structure.

I used two types of joints in this assignment- a box joint for the single units and a simple slot for inerlocking units
Press Fit
The press fit took a few attempts. The laser bed wasn't completely even so it's not perfect, but by lengthening the tabs and narrowing the slots I was able to get a pretty good fit.

In order for the units to be able to interlock with one another, I had to cut a slit into each piece

Assembly was a bit of a process, but it was fun! My hallmates enjoyed playing with the pieces as well. :) In future iterations I would love to experiement making more modular press fit pieves, maybe out of acrylic or somethign colorful!
