Week 3
Electronics Production
A Small Printed Circuit Board
This week's assignment was straightfoward, I used the Modela MDX-20 to cut out the traces for the above board and soldered on the components. The only difficulty was some of the conducting paths for the USB adapter peeling off slightly at the edge of the board. However, since the connector has so many lines, there were enough good lines to hold the connector firmly down. The loose path was thus squeezed firmly against the board and secured with solder.

Note that often surface-mount resistors and capacitors do not have values written on them. Just because they are in a particular box does not mean that they have been placed there correctly! This is obviously an issue with resistors, but can also be a problem with capacitors if the value used is too small to stabilize a noisy power line, for instance.
