Week One: Press-Fit

For week one, we designed and printed press-fit constructions with the lasercutter. I made a paper organizer for my desk. It has two shelves and is held together using tabs on the shelf pieces that fit into holes on the wall pieces. I CADed my design in Rhino and then used fabmodules to cut it out with the lasercutter. On my first trial, I accidentally made it too small, because I designated the width to be the width of printer paper plus the length of a tab, when I should have added enough for two times the length of a tab. It is a bit too small to fit printer paper, but it can fit loose leaf. I plan to reprint it with the corrected dimensions and out of a different material than cardboard, perhaps hardboard or chipboard.
