For this week's assignment, the defaut is to make a furniture piece. I was intrigued by the Spun Chair by Thomas Heather Wick. I wanted to find a way to planarize this 3D object as I imagined it to be nearly impossible to ship around.

I first modelled the Spun Chair and printed with 3DWOX to check study the geometry.

I tried to slice the chair with different ways from 123D MAKE until I found this. It is heart broken to find something you are ecstatic to be the first one to do has been done by others.


I reproduced the same deisgn parametricly on Rhino + GH.

2. Prototype with Lasercutting (MASONITE) at scale 1/8


3. Prototype with Onsrud CNC Milling (OSB) at scale 1/2
