Week 2: Project Management, Computer-Controlled Cutting

Me

Proposal

I did a number of vinyl cuts, to make sure i had the hang of using the mod system and how to properly plot images of verging design or size. In doing this i chose to cut out 3 replicas of Kara Walker”s shilloett institutions, so that i would have a little piece of the Brooklyn Museme in my studio. She is one of my favorite artist and she a permeant installation at the Brooklyn Museme, she is a also a bit of an inspiration to me…. I understand there is an issue of copy right here, and I am really hoping i don't get a cease and desist letter for this.

I also have a lot of love for Yayoi Kasuma, i even visited the island in Japan where he work is permanently installed all over the village. I had a lot of fun with her pumpkins and so , in my nostalgia for my year abroad in Japan, i decided to process an old photos the pumpkin by the sea I had , in illustrator. I created a PNG logo and saved it at about a 4 by 5 size and cut it out.

Finally, i made my own design, with random shapes in a graduation of sizes. I didn't think the design out very well, because i had to pull off each piece one by one and i made a bout 50 of them in varying sizes. It took a bit of time but maybe 25 of them are now installed in my studio along side Yayoi Kasuma’s pumpkin and Kara Walkers cut outs.
