Week 3. 3D Printing & Scanning
I wanted to explore linkages and gears. I like the work of Theo Jansen and his Strandbeests.
I first explored a bunch of different linkages on the program Linkage to test some sample mechanisms. I approximately re-created Jansen's mechanism here:
I attempted to make a parametric design of a gear, but when I tried to design an interlocking partner, I could not get them to mesh properly.
In my second attempt I created some smaller gears so that they could be spun while being held in a hand.
My first print was stuck together because I had not given the gears enough clearance in my design.
With more clearance it worked!
