WEEK 13
WILDCARD WEEK
1. MICROLASER MACHINING
THE MAIN ITEM I CHOSE FOR WILDCARD IS MICROLASER MACHINING, I TRIED BOTH CUTTING AND ETCHING. FOR CUTTING I MADE A MICRO-URINAL (ART HISTORY
REF). I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT I COULD MAKE 3D SCULPTURES, WHEN I REALIZED THIS WASNT THE MACHINE FOR THAT I TURNED MY STL FILE INTO DXF
LAYERS WITH FUSION SLICER.
EVENTHOUGH SLICER IS A FUSION ADD ON, IT CREATES THOUSANDS OF TINY SEGMENTS INSTEAD OF ONE CONTINUOUS LINE THAT MADE IT UNSUITABLE
FOR TOOLPATHING. I JOIN/CLOSED VECTORS IN VCARVE, JOINED IN RHINO, NOTHING WORKED. IN THE END I WENT IN ILLUSTRATOR AND TRACED OVER EACH
PIECE MANUALLY.
WITH ETCHING I PUT MY UTERUS LOGO ON A COIN. MAKING A MICRO-STATEMENT.
I ALSO TRIED TO ETCH WORDS ON LEAVES, BUT THEY KEPT BURNING AWAY. ENDED UP MICRO-SCARING THE LEAF. THE PREFIXX MICRO- MAKES EVERYTHING SOUND COOLER.
2. MACHINE KNITTING
FOR THIS ITEM I WENT WITH THE EASIEST OPTION: JAQUARD KNITTING. I KNITTED THE SAME BIOVAZARD LOGO. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A STRAIGHT FORWARD
JOB BUT A NEEDLE BROKE BEFORE MY SLOT, AND WE ENDED UP SPENDING 2.5 HRS FIXING THAT NEEDLE.
(L TO R:
THE FIXING; THE HAPPY ALEX; THE PRETENDING TO POINT AT SOMETHING RAE)
3. BIOPRINTING
THIS ITEM WAS SPREAD OUT INTO SEVERAL STEPS. WE GOT TO HAND DRAW WITH GFP BACTERIA.
AND WE PRINTED WITH BIOMATERIAL ONLY. MY FINAL GOAL WAS TO PRINT A KODAME WITH THE FLOURESCENT BACTERIA INFUSED BIOMATERIAL.
KODAME ARE CHARACTERS FROM STUDIO GHIBLI OF TREE SPIRITS THAT ARE BIOLUMINISCENT BY NATURE AND DWELLS IN THE
FOREST, I THOUGHT IT FIT THE THEME.
