for the laser cutter, we had to make a pressfit model. I chose a utilitarian option by creating a monitor stand for the iMac in my office. oiginally I was just going to make a box for the monitor, but as I looked online I got inspired by this cardboard stool.
my process started with creating the 3D shape of the stand.
I then created the perimeter planes, figured out the where the cross sections should intersect based on the perimeter planes. in total, I had four perimeter planes, eleven longitudinal cross sections and eleven latitudinal cross sections.
for the vinyl cutting, I also wanted it to be utilitarian.
my laptop case is all black with nothing on it so I wanted to created an all-white sticker that would go well with the case.
I spent an anoyingling long time trying to get the vinyl cutter to actually cut before I realized that I couldn't just use .png files, I needed to use .svg.
most of my creative energy went towards the monitor stand and creating the drawings, so I decided to just look for an image that I wanted to ientify with. I first looked for some Calvin and Hobbes .svg files but I couldn't find any adequate ones.
after putting some more thought into it, I decided upon using the Colombian Soccer's national team logo.
