This week I worked with the Harvard section on making composites, detailed here.
We designed and fabricated a 3D mold, and produced a fiber composite part in it, with epoxy resin infusion and compaction and burlap/canvas. We created a hand guard to protect cyclists’ hands from cold wind.
The process is to mix the epoxy and hardener, place a burlap over the release layer, puncture holes into the bleeder layer, seal them all into a bag and such out the air. Within a day, this should produce a very strong yet light material.
