Computer-Controlled-Cutting
1 . Kit of Parts
[a cloud and a skin]
For this assignment, I intended to build a sphere using flat sheet cuts using the laser cutter.
Starting with a parametric 3D model that divides the sphere's surface into single curved segments with three main horizontal ribs.
The horizontal ribs and skin are put into place by temporary vertical ribs that are then replaced by a cloud of circular components.
[process] looking into notching and surface patters to achieve the skin's curvature. Several surface patterns were studied with varying thicknesses and lengths to achieve a single curvature with a diameter of around 200mm.
[process] temporary vertical ribs to hold the dome in place for the cloud to come in. Six surfaces are rolled onto the frames with flaring ends at the top and bottom.
[process] vertical ribs replaced with the cloud of circular elements. Four sizes of circular notched pieces amalgamate within the sphere's void to connect the three main horizontal ribs
