WEEK 1 : LASERCUT
For this weeks assignment on Laser and Vinyl cutter I decided to create a lamp shade for my dark studio desk, and print a sticker of my bright orange glasses for my computer case.
For the first step I started with a paper folding exercise to create a simple but fun lamp shading structure. The idea is to have one important pin connection in the structureand make it as efficient as possible
 
            Then I used Cad modelling software to create the form on a 3d modelling environment and made sure the dimensions would fit the light bulb I had purchased
 
            Since the assignment asked for a parametric design, I added different patterns onto the unrolled surface and tested the bending of each pattern to see which one worked better
 
            The patterns with more lines bend better however because I want light to pierce through and not create any weird lighting I decided to go with the normal scattered line
 
            Failures: Because the chipboard provided had already a gap of air in-between, plus the parametric pattern it created a highly ustable condition, also the pin connection extremely weak and would either break or snap without major structural improvement
 
            I changed the material to a single layer chipboard and re designed the pin connection with a rod element that would secure the Lamp from disassembling itself when put together I also removed the pattern from the procimity of the pin connection to further create stability
 
            Final Result
 
             
            For the Vinyl cutter I wanted to get a sticker of my glasses for my computer so I took a picture and way traced it with adobe illustrator
 
            Then I ran the cutting software on a red vinyl so it appears as close as the actual colors of the glasses
 
            Final Result:
 
                For the group project Danny and I tested different levels of power and speed to change the kerf and get to a perfect .50 so both of our connections would be perfect
