ct scans of 2x2 IDC connector housing >
reverse engineering >
at Dave’s direction, tried out a few things to reverse engineer the connector housing:
- in scans, can actually see voids in the plastic
- imported screenshot of finished ct scan
- important to make sure the axis are aligned to ease alignment in solidworks
- imagej was useful for getting scale correct using calipers for a known measurement
- some paint.net magic to boost brightness and contrast, remove the background
- created features in solidworks
- unfortunately ran into some troubles with the new ultra-clear resin I wanted to use for this (tried 3 times)
- first time misjudged correct exposure settings; failed print (first time I had to remove something from the FEP)
- second time had some issues via the supports and had to decrease density of supports and increase distance (resin capillary effect)
- third time finished print, but again resin by capillary effect ended up in places I didn’t want it, so the channels were sealed shut
