the process of transforming strands of fibers into yarn either through extrusion (artificial fibres) or mechanical bundling (natural fibers, e.g. cotton)
winding
one of the first steps in the textile making process where the yarn is wound onto a bobbin and then used in a shuttle wound in a ball and used for knitting or spinning
twisting
joining together of several threads into one by continous rotation – direction of the twist is colloquially described as S or Z. Most sewing machines that use a single needle threads with Z twist, using an S thread can unwind the thread during the sewing process.
