Week 1: Culture and Context

Lecture: Introduction to various methods and approaches to analyzing and contextualizing a design problem. Gain an understanding of the different interplay of cultural forces, diversity of use and different aims surrounding each case study but also learn how to identify common features and patterns.
Lab: Introduction to vector graphics (e.g. Adobe Illustrator) and raster graphics software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) for image/color editing and sketching/editing of drawings
Guest: Lee Moreau, Continuum
Assignment: Select a scenario/context/site to analyze light - how is it used, how is it controlled, how does it impact the environment? Present a documentation of this analysis in visual form, including, but not limited to, diagrams, photographs, and videos.
