Week 6: Constraints

Lecture: Presentation on design constraints. Constraints imposed by the social/physical context and user needs. Constraints posed by the designer: Why constraints are useful, why multiple variables/constraints are challenging, how to work with constraints to arrive at stronger design. Examples of parametric design approaches.
Philips Lab and Tour: Philips Hue lab and tour of their Cambridge office during class time.
Lab: Office hours (by request)
Assignment: Demonstrate how electronics and light sources will be integrated into your design in a study model. With lighting as a new constraint, produce at least 3 iterative models, assessing and evaluating the quality of light in each.
