I am a second year PhD student in mechanical engineering, and I am taking FAB to learn how to make devices for distibuted control and sensing in buildings. Such things already exist, but they are very expensive and pretty clunky - surely there has to be a stronger, cheaper, smarter way to do things in building automation systems. Along the way to my goal, I'm pretty excited to learn some new things that were neglected so far in my MIT education. I've been at the institute for 7 full years so far, and have succesfuly never programmed a computer (matLab scripts aside). Hopfully that will change term.
