Instructions for New users

Jan 2005, Ghana Fablab.

So this is your first day at the fablab. Here is a brief intro to the fablab and a coupple of things you should do the first day.

Fablab is a shared design and rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility with tons of equipment and software. Usually people are working on fun projects, learning various skills like electronics, machine design etc. or in general personalizing different artifacts. There is a lot to learn here so get started. Make sure you find another student and make him as a lab buddy. If he has been coming to the lab more often, he for sure knows more than you. He can make sure transition to the fab world much smoother. Another thing you should ask for are the cheat-sheets. They are one page sheets describing a project which you can finish in a day. This way you can try your hands at various things and choose what you like, and finally become an expert in the same.

The first day you need to do the following:
1. Find a lab assistant or Mr. Arzsoo.
2. Ask them to create a login for you. If you have a login, you will be able to save and open your files from a  personal space. It is mandatory for all users to have a login.
3. Learn how to login and logout. You should always save your current work and logout when you leave.
4. Always respect the privacy of others. Never share your login password with anybody else.

Happy fabbing.
