This week's goal was to learn how to use the Water Jet Cutter.

I struggled tyring to find an idea of what to make on the water jet cutter. I don't think it will be used in my final project, so I decided to do something fun. My initial ideas were a little too big to be worth making, so I settled on something smaller: a cookie cutter.

I decided to make a cookie cutter of my profile. I started by taking a photo, and generating a silouhette of my face. I had problems getting any file format to work in OMAX layout. I tried exporting paths from illustrator, and photoshop, but neither worked. At last, I turned to John, who, like a magician, wiggled his fingers and made it work.

He ended up opening up the image in Corel TRACE, and then had it find the contour lines around the outside of the profile. This was then imported into OMAX.

The next problem was trying to make an inner and an outer line to create the cutter. It was very difficult to do in OMAX as just shrinking it did not create the correct shape. The solution is to create the inner offset in photoshop, and import it into corel trace as a line with thickness.

In the end I had my cookie cutter, and made a cookie with it. Concerns include the fact that the cookie was very amorphous in the end, and that I used an aluminum cookie cutter to make my cookie.
