Week 2: Laser and Vinyl Cutting

Experiment with Shapes/Design

I wanted to experiment with creating a press kit that didn't have a flat or square structure. So the first thing I did was take some cardboard and cut a few patterns to determine how I would be able to get the cardboard to curve without breaking

Laser Cutting the Design

I had a very hard time creating the design I wanted in CAD, so I opted to use Adobe Illustrator to create multiple press fit peices with my circular flexible design

With the appropriate focus I was able

Below are the resulting peices and flexure in the design

Flexure

I ran into an interesting issue because my cardboard was not completely flat. When the laster was out of focus, it singed one and didn't completely cut all of the way through. Becasue of this, I had to throw some of the peices away.

Final Result!

With more time, I would have created joints that would connect the peices. Curently, the peices fit at a perpendicular plane, but I think it would be interested to see waht the result would look like if they could be connected on the same plane.

Vinyl Cutting

I also experimented with the final cutter to create circuits for the following week. I didn't end up using it in my design, but I plan to use this process in my final project.
