WEEK 4 | 3D SCANING + PRINTING

PRINTING

For the 3d printing, I wanted to design a mesh that will act as a textile, and will be flexible.
I was looking for a similar approach online and found out that many fashion designers had tried to do that,
and saw many examples. one that i liked most was a way to design a surface out of triangles with interlocks.
I designed the surface as a collar, that can be worn on top of a shirt. I measured my collar, and created the two modoules
for the interlock system. After that, I used them on a layer shaped as a collar.

Since the collar is big (35 cm X 10 cm) I decided to test the interlock system in the machine.
In the middle of the printing, the machine stoped with the warning: filnament broken. I asked someone in the shop what to
do and he explained how to change the filnament. The triangles that were already printed where hard to remove from the
base surface, so i decided this time to not print it. It also made the printing much faster.

When I printed the full scale collar with the supports, it was impossible to remove the mesh, and it breaked.
I tried to print the full version again without the first layer, but it failed quickly without the supports. So I changed the
design a little bit so the triangles will be bigger and the angles of the interlock will be smaller,
so the mesh will be more dense and less fragile. I sent it again to the printer, with the supports,
but it will be ready only after the class.

SCANING

For the scaning and printing-your-own-scaning I wanted to do his and hers models. I scanned my partner and
after two failed attempts I finally managed to do this right. we both were really happy with the resault.
When he tried to scan me, it was much less good, and since he didn't have the patience to keep trying,
we just left it the way it was. I sent both of them to the Zcrop printer, but it will be ready only on Friday.

And here are the design file (the mesh is too big for uploading):
