W-VI - computer controlled machining

It was the midterm and I was struggling with paralel events in the MIT universe.
The machines for Make Something Big are not very accessible, and I delayed the work on this project for a less crowded days when the demand for the timeslots and materials not be so high.

The Project

I want to make a large model of the city of Sarajevo and use it as a stage for a stroytelling experience. I would like it to be a white material that would have some translucent properties.

I worked on the programing and development of the shaders and mapping of a small 3d printed model in the meant time.

ffmpeg -i 4.mp4 -vcodec libx264 -crf 20 4LO.mp4

I used 3Ds Max to import the height map and displace a flat plane, than used Mesh Optimisation to reduce the resolution of the image, and finaly removed all the phong and smoothing on the mesh in order to have a clean geometry of the model.

The buildings were too small to be printed in this size ratio, so I removed them from the print and added in the shader for projection map.

I apologised to Neil about being late with the actual machining and I plan to produce this large model as soon as I find the right material to create the map.

I can't wait to see this in the real world!
