Project 1 - Digital Fabrication and Computer-Aided Design

This week I tried getting better at Solidworks. I also played around with some ideas for the final project. The first idea was based on The Suite Life of Zach and Cody *nostalgia ensues*. In the show, an exhorbitantly rich character named London has a mirror in her closet. This mirror comments on London's outfits and disparages Maddie's outfits. This gave me the idea to make a mirror that would 'yay' or 'nay' an outfit based on the colors it had and whether they clashed or not.

Goals

Class Assignment:

Things I took away from this week

The Play-by-Play

  1. Brainstorming ideas
  2. I spent an hour or so looking at previous year's final projects. Wow! People have made some cool things. Honestly, I got a little intimidated by some of them. But by looking at them I saw a couple of trends, a lot of people made things that would be useful or cool to have. With this in mind, I began brainstorming.
  3. Drawing sketches
  4. Thanks to the free iPads MIT gave everyone and the new access to Adobe Creative Cloud, I was able to download Adobe Illustrator for free. I drew up a couple of ideas in illustrator including a bubble for me to see people walk by my door, a sassy mirror, and a light-up dress.
  • Using Solidworks :0
  • I modeled the mirror in Solidworks using some simple geometries. I considered adding legs but decided that this would be a mirror that leans against a wall.
