Week 1

Laser cut and Vinyl cutting

Computer-Controlled Cutting

For the first week assignment, we were given one group assignment and two individual assignments to be able to use various tools for introducing computer controlled cutting techniques: the vinyl-cutter and the laser cutting machine.

1. For the group assignment, I worked with great group from the Architecture department: Demircan, MQ, Zach and Kim to characterize the different parameters of the laser cutter: focus, power, speed, rate, kerf, joint clearance. we were using cardboard as our initial material. Here's 15 seconds of how it looked in the Arch shop, suuming up several hours :)

2. For the individual assignment, I used Fusion 360 and Rhino as my 3D design software to build muilti axes joint piece that allows several building directions. Firstly, I design 4 joints in one piece, and than I worked on 8 joints in one piece.

The outcome is a playful puzzle that can build both horizontal and vertical modular furniture.

3. For the vinyl cut assignment, I made a vinyl cut that try to mimic water/ stamp splash. At the beggining, I made a very tiny one, which the details almost couldnt be catched with the cutter, and than I sorted out the scale :)
