Final Project Concept Renders

High Range RFID Transmitter

The goal of this project is to create an active RFID Transmitter, which can boost the range of my MIT ID card. By boosting the range to about 4 ft, this would allow me to open doors without needing to remove my wallet from my pocket. As long as I am close to the door, it will unlock. I have done some resaerch for feasiblilty, and it seems possible, but I question whether I have the electrical experience required to make it work.

Portable Chess Set

Chess can be a notoriously long game to play, so the ability to pause it, move it, and resume it would be useful. Portable chess games exist, but the game peices can't remain on the board while you're carrying it. This deisgn (sketched below) moves the magnetic board into the base as it folds closed. The chess peices remain magnetically attached to the board as the board sinks down into thte closing box

Light Saber

This project is based on the classic lightsaber from Star Wars. I have always been a big fan. Star Wars inpsires me, and never fails to give me a good laugh with my friends. This design is far from the plasma generating weapon that my heros fight with, but it mimics the visuals and audio of the saber. This idea is far from original, and you don't have to look hard to find online custom saber builders, but I have some unique goals for my replica:

The sound system:

Most lightsabers I have seen just use a small speaker in the back to create the sound effects. I plan to use multiple speakers in conjunction with empty space in the hilt (or possibly in the blade) to amplify the sound and make a full sounding feel.

The weight:

This saber will need to have a proper weight distribution so that the center of mass is in the hilt. The hilt will use mostly metal components, which will also give a satisfying solid feel to the saber.

The Removable blade:

The blade (perhaps a polycarbonate tube) should be removable, so that it can either me replaced if damaged or just to make the hilt feel more real when the saber is not lit.

The Crystal chamber:

This is purely for asthetics, but a chamber that opens and closes (by tisting the hilt) will house an eluminated crystal "powers" the blade (of course the battery is actually powering everything)
