Milling PCBs was a lot easier than I imagined even though there was still a learning curve and took me a while to get good at debugging boards when they failed. I quickly found that it was very helpful to edit boards in Photoshop after exporting from Eagle so that I could make pads bigger to make soldering easier. I thought I was pretty comfortable with soldering, but I had only soldered larger through hole components before and the SMD parts required much more precision and attention to detail as it was very easy to short things without realizing they shouldn't be connected and sometimes the shorts were made by tiny pieces of solder that were hard to see.
