This week, the CBA section worked together to create a machine that can draw arbitrary designs in sand.

Sand

We quickly discovered that the magnet rubbing against sand particles created a very unpleasant sound. Hence, we put the sand through a sifting-cleaning process to eliminate large particles, as well as magnetic particles.

First, I removed large particles by sifting the sand through three different filters.

Then, I used a magnet to remove magnetic particles in the sand.

The final result was very fine-grain sand that contributed to a smooth drawing experience in our final machine!
