COMPUTER-CONTROLLED CUTTING

This week, I learned how to use vinyl cutter and laser cutter, and made this website.

For vinyl cutter assignment, I made a logo sticker for a open sourced project I involved, called Therapeutics Data Commons. Fortunately I found similar colored vinyl papers from the lab and made the sticker with multiple colors! I first wanted to cut the logo itself, but found the font size is too small that I cannot take it completely. Thus I decided to cut the background. To color it, I paste the colored vinyl paper from back at the corresponding positions. It looks good!

For laser cutter assignment, I made a holder for my projector with carboard. I like lying down when watching movies at home so I need my projector to stably face both forward and upward. I obtained the size parameters of my projector from internet and designed the shape of cardboard pieces to fit it. I used Abode Illustrator for designing this project and exported as SVG format. After testing the joint size (4.0 mm), I cutted the parts and ensembled them. It went smoother than I thought.

PROCESS

THIS IS HOW I GOT THERE

Failed as the text in the logo is too thin.

Go inverse.

Add multiple layers to color it.

DONE.

Parametric design for the projector holder.

Test if stable.

DONE!.

How it looks from font.

How it looks from back.
