Week 12: Mechanical and Machine Design

Tasks

1. Individually Contributing to the Class Machine

I'll be frank, having the entire class work on a project together was both chaotic and very fun, and I'll admit up front that I wish I had done more to help. When I asked what needed working on, I got this response:

I spent an evening not at EDS but back home figuring out how Modular Things works, and it's actually quite nifty and straightforward. I would give massive props to Jake and Quentin and all those who contributed to Modular Things because it truly simplifies everything to make controlling multiple systems quite easy. After playing around with an actual motor and noting some important things (like the "await" and making sure objects are named correctly), I left EDS to return later in the evening, planning to come back and actually see the machine's system and implement it in Modular Things code only to find that five other people had also been assigned the same job and were doing it even better than I was!

Given I was much more of a novice coder than the others, I decided to make myself useful as another pair of hands. I helped out now by filling in gaps where more people were needed, doing odd tasks and trying to be moral support. Because of this, I can't remember all the specific actions I took for contributions, but I remember plenty the time of watching the machine make drawings over 20 minute stretches and refixing some mechanical stuff.
