Taili Zhuang's week 14

This week is the wild card week. We are ordered to choose a skillset to learn. I choose to study how to use the water jet cutter. First of all I am very surprised to learn that the water jet is actually not a super clean and accurate cutting tool. the waterjet doesn't really cut materials with a stream of water, but rather the material is cut by the stream of sand shooting out from the nozzle with the water.

For the thing I want to cut, I've designed a small medalion with a tear drop shape. At the inside, There are also some plant motiff patterns.

The file attached is the actual digital cutfile I've used. they are in dxf format

The milling had some troubles with the machine sometimes randomly pause itself or not cutting some line fragments. When we try to cut over the material again, the waterjet stream misaligned. I tried again later

The one above has some problemmatic cut edges. The misaligned boundaries are human errors caused by me.

Because of its thickness, the light refract in a nice way when viewing from a low angle

I love the tear drop medalion I've made. It can also be a necklace if hanged on a string.
