Taili Zhuang's week 4

The fourth week we are tasked with learning 3d printing and scanning. However, I already know how to do this long ago. First, I am going to assemble a Voxel printer.

It is pretty easy. Just have to put the kit together. The printer doesn't have an auto leveling system. So I would have to manually adjust the bed. But no matter.

But for this week I am going to just use the school printer, so I can procrastinate on tuning and leveling my bed. I want to do something cool. I am into AI image generation recently, and I want to try stable diffusion. I tried the demo and it absolutely blown my mind. The generations look amazing.I want to use it and turn the ai images into real life objects. After a bunch of trials, I finally settled on this alien looking art nouvure egg.

I watched a youtube tutorial online. The first step is to generate height map and bump maps from the texture. With such information layers, I can generate a texture mapping on a 3d surface.

I then go into blender and modeled an egg shaped object. Roughly it looks like the AI image egg. I wrap it around the egg and produce a bump map. I mirror the texture because AI image only comes with one side.

I tried to print the egg in both the normal 3d printer and the resin printer. However, I had a tough time with the resin printer. So I give up. The prusiar printer was easy. Got it done in first try.

I printed the egg, and spray painted it. It is a brand new era!

Here is the link to download the stl file for the egg!

For the 3d scanning assignment I chose a tomato and a sea shell to scan

The tomato is scanned. There are some problems with the model since there are broken meshes which don' align properly. The tomato toy also has many movable parts, so I chose another object to scan.

I chose a small shell to scan. The result is much better since the scanner has a limited range. I think the smaller the object better the results will be.
