Week 02 | Computer-Controlled Cutting
[Tl;dr] Joined class late, make-up week.
This week's assignment is to 1) cut something on the vinylcutter design, 2) lasercut, and document a parametric construction kit.
Things I did for this week:
- Cut a sticker on vinylcutter
Vinylcut a sticker
This is make-up week and I got lucky that Catherine walked me through the process of how to use the vinylcutter.
To start with something simple, I want to cut a sticker. Firstly I went to the vinylcutter station at REEF.
Cutting
The cutting procedure is pretty much the same as the intruction sheet besides the machine:
I opened the software, started a new project. SinceI wanted to try something simple first, I just chose a star shape.
After placeing the design at the upper-left corner, I cut out the vinyl material at put it at the same place on the matrix board.
I then chose the corresponding type of material I used in Circut and placed the board into the machine.
Press start button and enjoyed the speed cut of the machine.
Here is the cut outcome from the machine :)
Transferring
The next step was to transfer my cut to where I wanted to put it, in which case, on the back of my phone.
I first peeled off the extra vinyl that I didn't need.
Catherine showed me where to find the transfer material. I cut out the size I need, peeled of the tape and pasted it onto the sticker I made.
The I peeled of the sticker with the transfer tape, and pasted the whole thing onto the back of my phone, carefully removed the transfer tape.
Outcome
And now I have a star at the back of my phone! <3
