I decided that for this week’s assignment I would design and manufacture a chair. In order to add some extra excitement to the challenge I decided not to use any fasteners or glue.
In order to make it as sturdy as possible I made the sides in one pieces and then connected them with 3 boards. Not only this enhanced the load capacity of the chair, but it also provided me with a nice storage space under it.
I decided to also add a couple of designs to the sides of the chair since I was not reliant on the sides for support.(In my original design they were left empty, but I thought that my creation was too barren).
Below is my CAD design:

Manufacturing the chair proved a bit more labour intensive than I initially anticipated. I underestimated how long it would take to rasp all of the joints and then to put it together. In order to decrease my burden, I decided to leave the sides with their tabs intactI(I rationalized this by claiming that it looks better this way).

My chair still leaves much to be desired in terms of comfort. However, I left some space above the top board in case I decide to place something nicer on top of it. Another disadvantage of the chair is the fact that even though the seat supports my weight, the backrest does not support my weight. I could perhaps reinforce it or I could just remarket my chair as a stool.

I added the cad on the Fusion team since I could not upload it here.
