Hungry for Embroidery

Choosing which fabrication method to learn this week was the easiest decision I've made this semester. I've wanted to know how to do automated embroidery for a VERY long time, and this was the perfect opportunity to learn while getting class credit! For my design, a loved one found an image on Pinterest that she asked me to embroider for her:

For starters, a very massive thank you to Alec for his exhaustive help and patience as I ambled my way through the beautiful world of embroidery. Alec helped me learn enough of Inkscape (by the way, I VASTLY prefer Illustrator over Inkscape) to get a proper, prepared design over to Brother's local janky print software, and from that software to the machine itself.

Alec then helped me stretch my material of choice across the frame before mounting it into the machine. All that remained to be done was to hit GO...

Immediate problems with the tension of the thread, which Alec walked me through fixing up. Before long, things were back underway:

This week was an absolute blast and a brilliant change of pace. I loved this assignment and will be taking these skills with me for the rest of my life.
