Wildcard week: Embroidery (!)

This week was a departure from past weeks in that it was not practically connected to my final project at all. It was a great opportunity to tackle a project I've wanted to do for a while - to take a logo I really liked and put it on a hat that actually fit my head. This was one of my favorite projects so far and I feel like I really understand the SE1800/1900 machines and the design software.

By coincidence, Char was also interested in making a hat so our demo was especially relevant. The hat hoop made it possible to embroider, but I think a better solution would be to embroider on a flat surface and then stitch on because of the limited accessible design area.
Using adhesive backing made for smoothing stitching and greater resolution / fidelity to the design. You can kind of see here some of the limits of using the hat - it's still difficult to embroider close to the brim of the hat, which also required pinning the inside lip of the hat to the brim. As a result, the logos sit a little high on the hat.

Huge UI improvements from one generation to another

...for a niche, amateur application

The 1900 makes it really easy to select a starting point that you can calculate from Ink Stitch. This was important when I wanted to skip colors / segments of the embroidery that were difficult to edit in InkScape. When using the 1800, Alec and I realized that you can count by 30s, as opposed to the 1900 where you can count by 100s and see the stitch count of the current project.
