How to Make Almost Anything

by Kenneth Oranga

Hello. My name is Ken, a mechanical engineer-cum-artist. Follow my progress for the next few months as I learn how to make anything. My end goal is to make a detachable bed headboard with embedded sensors to monitor sleep patterns.

About Me

I come from a small village in the western side of Kenya, where my deep-rooted curiosity and passion for creating things began. From an early age, I was fascinated by how design could shape the world around me, which led me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration on Design. This technical background has allowed me to approach problems with a structured mindset, but my creative side is equally important. As an artist, I am constantly on a mission to explore new styles and forms of expression. So far, I’ve ventured into fashion design, photography, mural painting, and graphite art, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for growth. My artistic journey has given me a new appreciation for how art and design intersect in everyday life. Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue a double major in Art and Design to fully merge my engineering skills with my creative ambitions, blending technical expertise with artistic vision to bring innovative ideas to life. Through this fusion of art and design, I hope to make a meaningful impact in both the creative and engineering worlds.
