For this week's wildcard assignment, I chose to explore textiles, inspired by my mom's passion for clothes design.
I wanted to create something meaningful for her while learning a new skill. I decided to work with embroidery and used digital tools to design a dog with heart eyes that could be stitched onto fabric.
Process Overview
Design Selection: I selected a cute dog design with heart eyes. The simplicity of the image made it ideal for embroidery with some color variations.
CAD Preparation: Using Ink/Stitch, a free extension for Inkscape, I converted the image into a `.pes` file for the embroidery machine.
Stitch Planning: I experimented with different fill patterns and stitches, sticking to one or two colors for simplicity.
Machine Setup: I loaded the `.pes` file onto the embroidery machine, prepared the fabric with a stabilizer, and monitored the stitching process.
What I Learned
Even simple embroidery designs require careful planning of stitch types, patterns, and layers.
Ink/Stitch is a powerful tool for embroidery design, though it has a learning curve compared to industry-standard software.
Embroidery machines are precise, but they require careful setup to avoid issues like fabric puckering.
Final Result
The result was a colorful and adorable embroidery of the dog with heart eyes. The final product turned out great, and my mom loved it!
