Welcome to Week 14

Wildcard Week

For wildcard week I wanted to revisit the laser cutter in a new way. I also ventured outside EDS for this one and into Makerworks (a student run maker workshop that I work as a mentor in). The reason being that I wanted to use the rotary tool to laser engrave glass cups and mugs. This is the machine I sued and the setup needed to rotate the cups while they were being engraved.

Next I needed to come up with a design on Adobe Illustrator and convert it into something the laser cutter could read and raster. I had two designs in mind.....

The I set up the neccessasry power and speed of the laser and sent it to the machine. I knew what they were from the handbook in the shop for 600 DPI (100 speed and 60 power):

Then once the material was in place we were setting to start engraving:

The final products:

There were a couple failed attempts where they didn't come out it the placement I wanted so I had to redo a few, but otherwise super fun week machining!!!
