wildcard week

For wildcard week, I chose glass engraving!! I happened to look through the slack groups before Quentin presented on it, and still ended up being 8th on the list. Lucky me I did - it was quite popular!

So, I started thinking about what would be cool to put inside a glass cube. So obviously, I wanted to put my head in.

I started by using the Creality Ferret to get the scan. Thanks to Dan for helping me with it! Here is the result:

It is kind of scary! And I moved a bit while it was scanning so my face is a little deformed. But it will do the job!

Then, I imported the STL to rhino and thought to myself.... what if I truly became OCTOABBY. So I downloaded some tentacles from printables and stuck them on. Here is the result:

Only slightly horrifying. I for some reason could not get it to boolean split so the tentacles were just inside the mesh of my shoulders... I thought it wasn't a big deal but I forgot the glass engraving was so translucent.

But no matter! During my session, we loaded up the STL of OCTOABBY and sent it to cut. Thanks Quentin for helping us all! It was a very quick and painless process -- my engraving lasted less than 4 mins!

This video is sped up 1500%.

But voila!!! Here she is in all of her beautiful glory:

You can see where the tentacles begin, but I don't really see it as a flaw. I think it looks cool and I it's fun to have my head in the glass.
