About
Week of 05/10
After troubleshooting the clay extruder for a few weeks we decided to transition to our multimaterial mixer
with clay and foam. We updated the auger extruder to have a smaller mixing chamber and tighter fit around
the auger. We also positioned the inputs away from each other to make it harder for one material to enter a
different input. Finally we connected the inputs to the foam extruder from week 3/29 to an air pressure
controlled clay extruder.
After initial testing we realized that we wanted the system to be more foam based then clay based. A dense
clay simply clogged the system and prevented any flow of foam through. However, when we added water to
the clay and turned it into more of a slip the extrusion process started to get some traction. Key to the
process will be just picking enough slip to allow for the air bubbles to solidify without weighing the extrusion
down.
