Week 10

Networking & Communications

This week was Network & Communication week and I wanted to experiment with WeMos D1 R2 (ESP8266MOD)

This device has both WIFI and Bluetooth, it can be used as Access Point, and it can connect to an existing WIFI too, in my final project I want to connect 3 devices with each other and I want to make a P2P network between them to collect user's interaction as a data and I want to visualize this data using p5js.

After connecting the WIFI development board ESP8266 to my computer I downloaded all the necessary libraries and used this code to make the board a WIFI access point.

Here is the code:

/* Create a WiFi access point and provide a web server on it. */"

#include
#include
#include

#ifndef APSSID
#define APSSID "ESPap"
#define APPSK "thereisnospoon"
#endif

/* Set these to your desired credentials. */
const char *ssid = APSSID;
const char *password = APPSK;

ESP8266WebServer server(80);

/* Just a little test message. Go to http://192.168.4.1 in a web browser
   connected to this access point to see it.
*/
void handleRoot() {
  server.send(200, "text/html", "

You are connected

"); } void setup() { delay(1000); Serial.begin(115200); Serial.println(); Serial.print("Configuring access point..."); /* You can remove the password parameter if you want the AP to be open. */ WiFi.softAP(ssid, password); IPAddress myIP = WiFi.softAPIP(); Serial.print("AP IP address: "); Serial.println(myIP); server.on("/", handleRoot); server.begin(); Serial.println("HTTP server started"); } void loop() { server.handleClient(); }

After a few troubleshoot, finally the board was able to connect and became an access point.

Then, I connected to the server with my phone.

Update!!!

I made a PCB to be able to control Wemos D1 mini remotely with 4 vibro motors. It worked well until suddenly my chip started to give errors. The reason of the error is still a mystery, but hope it will work again one day...
