Week 4

Electronics Design

This week has passed with a lot of trials and errors! First step was to pick the right program for me and uploading fab library into the software. I haven't done any electronics design before, and I had no idea which program to choose. I tried Fudion -> Eagle and KiCad, I like Eagle too but KiCad seems like the perfect fit for me in terms of its interface and easier navigation through different toolbars. After selecting my software, I researched a bit which microcontroller do I want to use for my project. I know that I need a camera module, wifi and bluetooth on my micro controller for the final project and I wanted to start with ESP32 C3. Before trying schematic for my final selection of microcontroller I tried schematics for ATTiny320 and RP2040 too just to make more practices in electronics design.

Here is my first set of drawings, my practice using ATTiny412, following the video of Zayn from previous years, https://vimeo.com/625848785/cbcd8b5d3e

After this practice, I tried to design a schematic for RP2040

After all of these exercises I started designing a more complex schematic design for ESP32 C3, my next attempt will be ESP32 S3 + camera module for my final project, but for now I believed this should be good enough to test things out!First test with ESP32-C3 was the one below, I used regulator and capacitor but then our TA Chili said regulator is not really needed since the microprocessor itself carries most of the respobsibility on this regard.

My final design has the components as follows, named identical as fab's library:

Module_XIAO-ESP32C3_SocketSMD

3 x Conn_PinHeader_1x05_P2.54mm_Horizontal_SMD

1 x Conn_PinHeader_1x04_P2.54mm_Horizontal_SMD

1 x LED_1206

2 x Resistor_1206

1 x Switch_Tactile_Omron

Group Assignment

Group assignment this week was fun! We were a crowded group of people testing many different testing equipments all together. We tested digital multimeter, mixed signal, oscilloscope...
