Week 6

It was molding and casting week this week! I wanted to create two designs for muqarnas domes, therefore I opted to draw influence from Islamic architecture.

I intended for this to be a tile pattern that would be assembled in a hexagonal shape.

First, I started off modelling the muqarnas domes on Rhino and prepare the file for CAM with the required wax size.

I sent the file to Jen to see if it is applicable, after her confirmation we met with her and went over the CAM file.

We did rough cuts first, parallel to the surface.

Next, we completed the surface finishing cuts using a toolpath configuration known as constant scallop, which starts at the center and provides circular details for the route. Many thanks for your helps and setting up the details fits best with my design!

After finishing the wax cut, I mixed equal parts of A and B of Oomoo product and waited for it to cure for 75 minutes.

Unfortunatelly, this is it for the week, I haven't had chance to use my mold to do the required design due to time limitations!
